“American Idol” will begin its search for the next David Cook or David Archuleta on Thursday, July 17.

The latest “American Idol” audition tour will kick off at the Cow Palace in San Francisco as TV’s most watched show begins its quest for its eighth champion.

Over the next month, “American Idol” will visit seven additional cities, including a first visit to the island of Puerto Rico, for auditions on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Following San Francisco on the 17th of July, “Idol” will move to Louisville, Kentucky on Monday, July 21 and to Phoenix, Arizona on Friday, July 25. Perhaps spurred by local boy Archuleta’s runner-up finish this past season, Salt Lake City, Utah will get an audition on Tuesday, July 29.

After the sojourn in Puerto Rico, “Idol” will be back on the mainland for auditions in Kansas City — Cook’s hometown — on Aug. 8, followed by Jacksonville, Florida on Aug. 13 and East Rutherford, New Jersey on Aug. 18.

Once again, auditions are open to men and women 16-28 years of age as of July 14, 2008.

The ad features an attorney (you) sitting at your desk looking very “lawyer-ish”, if that’s even a word. The script calls for your to asking the camera “Have you ever been wronged by a ticket company?”

Then you go on to recount various frustrations with the current way of buying/selling tickets and the companies that are involved. Eventually you lose your cool while recounting a nightmarish experience you’ve had with baseball tickets. It will result in a “hilarious” temper tantrum. Then you regain your composure and say “Hello, I’m Hank Wilfred Schtootz the Third. And if any of these things have ever happened to you, then please contact me immediately.” Cut to the final scene which shows a graphic of the new ticket website. It’s the easiest $400 you’ll ever make (yes, they are paying $400.00)

Breakdown: Attorney: male, Caucasian, 40-49, could pass for an attorney, a funny comb-over haircut would be ideal but not necessary, but some sort of sleazy hair-do would be preferable, a la Donald Trump, should be able to appear professional at the start, but then lose his cool and rant and rave a bit as the spot progresses into hilarity, must be able to portray one of those low budget, hack attorneys desperate for you to call him.
